Where the community is
Turtle Bay is on Sandbar Lane, off the main run of the island, which means the Folly River wraps around two sides of the property rather than sitting at the end of a view. The end-unit position of Unit 16 makes the most of that — you can see the water from the living room, the kitchen, and both the upper and lower decks.
Being off Center Street rather than on it is the trade the community makes. You do not get the noise of the strip, and you do walk about half a mile to reach it.
What the community includes
A fishing dock on the Folly River, open year-round and used for casting as much as for launching a kayak or paddleboard. A professionally maintained pool, open roughly April through October. Covered parking, which on a barrier island is worth more than it sounds — it keeps salt off the car and gear out of the sun.
What Unit 16 has that the others don't
It is an end unit, so the water is on two sides rather than one. It has three bedrooms and three bathrooms, one per bedroom, which is the arrangement that lets two families or three generations share the place without anyone drawing the short straw. Getting to the beach and to town
The Atlantic is about half a mile away, a ten-minute walk. Center Street — restaurants, bars, surf shops, and the route to the county pier — is a similar walk in the same general direction. Downtown Charleston is a 15 to 20 minute drive, and Morris Island Lighthouse is five minutes by car or an easy bike ride.
