Who it suits
Bringing several generations to Folly Beach
Three bedrooms, three ensuite bathrooms, and no one sharing a bath with anyone else's children. That is what makes this house work for a family spanning a few generations — provided everyone can manage a flight of stairs.
The short answer
Often, yes — for up to six people. All three bedrooms have their own ensuite bathroom, so two families or three generations can share the house without sharing a bathroom, which is usually the thing that makes or breaks a trip like this.
The limit is six guests, so this is a house for a close family group rather than a reunion. And there is one constraint worth settling before anything else.
Before you read on
- This home is not step-free. Reaching the living area and every bedroom requires climbing a full flight of stairs.
- Maximum 6 guests — there is no sofa bed or rollaway to stretch that.
- Pets are not permitted due to HOA rules.
The stairs, first
Multigenerational usually means someone older is travelling, so this belongs at the top rather than in the small print. The garage is on the ground level below the home. You can enter the garage without steps, but a full flight of stairs leads from there to the living area. The front door is also reached by steps. There is no step-free route into the living space.
The home is on more than one floor and there is no elevator. The ground level is only the garage; all three bedrooms are upstairs.
If a grandparent, or anyone else in the party, cannot manage a full flight of stairs comfortably and more than once a day, this house will not suit them, and it is better to know that now than at the door. If everyone is steady on stairs, the layout above them is genuinely well suited to a mixed-age group.
Sleeping arrangements
Three bedrooms — king, king, queen — each with its own ensuite bathroom:
- Primary suite — king bed, with an ensuite bathroom. Opens onto the top deck with water views.
- Second bedroom — king bed, with an ensuite bathroom.
- Third bedroom — queen bed, with an ensuite bathroom.
Two king beds and a queen means the rooms suit adult couples rather than a crowd of children — there are no bunks and no sofa bed. In practice the common arrangement is one couple per room, or grandparents in one room, parents in another, and children in the third.
The bathroom arrangement is the part that matters most on a shared trip: 3 full bathrooms, one for each bedroom. Nobody is queueing in the morning and nobody is sharing with someone else's teenagers.
Space to be together, and apart
A house works for several generations when there is somewhere to gather and somewhere to escape to. The living area is open with water views on two sides, and both decks look out over the water — so the people who want company and the people who want a book and a view do not have to be in the same room.
- A full kitchen. Fully equipped, down to a Keurig and a blender. Cooking together, rather than finding a restaurant table for six every night, is usually what keeps a trip like this affordable and relaxed.
- The community pool. The Turtle Bay community pool is steps from the unit and is open approximately April through October. A reliable option for the youngest and oldest members of the party when the ocean is rough.
- The fishing dock. The community fishing dock on the Folly River is steps away and accessible year-round. It tends to occupy grandparents and grandchildren together, which is the whole point of the trip.
- Parking for everyone. An enclosed private garage and covered carport accommodating up to 3 vehicles, plus room for a golf cart. Useful when two households arrive in two cars.
What works at either end of the age range
The short walk to the sand matters more with both small children and older relatives than anything else: it means going back to the house mid-afternoon is a five-minute decision rather than an expedition. The beach and Center Street are each about a 10-minute walk, in the same direction.
For a day with lifeguards, restrooms and its own parking on hand — generally the easier choice with very young children or anyone who would rather not walk far on sand — Folly Beach County Park is a 10-minute drive and is run by Charleston County Parks.
Folly's bar scene is concentrated on Center Street and gets loud in summer. The house is on the river side, far enough from it that the evening noise is something you choose to walk to rather than something that keeps a child — or a light-sleeping grandparent — awake.
When this is not the right house
It is a small house, not a resort, and there are trips it will not serve:
- Anyone who cannot manage stairs. There is no step-free route in and no elevator. This is the one that rules the house out most often for multigenerational parties.
- Groups larger than six. Three bedrooms, two kings and a queen, no extra beds.
- Families bringing a dog. Pets are not permitted due to HOA rules.
- Anyone wanting resort services. There is no front desk, no restaurant and no kids' club — check-in is keyless and self-service, and the kitchen is yours.
The stay guide goes through the layout room by room, and the FAQ answers the access questions directly if you need to check something specific before booking.
